1986 American Silver Eagle

Someone offered me $22 for a proof 1986 American Eagle silver dollar that I own, mint in velvet box with certificate of authenticity. I've been doing my home work on this and they usually sell for around that price, I think it's fair. What I'm wondering is, is it worth selling now for $22 or would it increase in value as time goes on?

For that matter, does any one know if the same applies for an 1883 Morgan Dollar?

In proof, book value for a 1986 Silver Eagle is $45. Now if you are selling one to a dealer you will never get $45 and if you are buying one you will probably pay a bit less than that. Generally these do increase in value over time, but except for certain rare issues, coins in general are a bad investment compaired to the stock market (ironic right now, but true!) The worst you will ever do with these is slightly less than bullion value, they are in fact bullion. Silver is currently a bit under $10 an ounce. If you want the money, go ahead and sell, but if you really don't want to sell you probably will come out a bit ahead in the long run by holding it. Morgans tend to trend upward, I would think a bit better than Silver Eagles. 1883 is not a very rare year (unless you have it in proof) but they are not making more of these.

Silver is at 20.10 an ounce

The Silver eagle market is around 22$ for a regular date - so thats the bear minimum.

All silver eagles are uncirculated so quality is prob not an issue for you, if they are still in their original case from the mint they are probably ms 67- to ms 69.

Both of your coins are around $34-40.

Hold onto them, silver will probably increase even more as the economy slumps.

I live with my best friend and he know that I collect older silver coins and American Silver Eagles dollar coins. Well he went out and bought me alot of silver old PCGS graded coins and 15 proof American Silver Eagles. My silver eagle proof set (1986-now) is now up to date thanks to him and I have a few doubles. He also told me that he have a coin that i've been wanting for a long time that hit him up hard in the pocket but I have to wait until Christmas. He has spent alot on me so far and bought me some really nice coins. I went out yesterday and bought him a friendship platinum ring that was $2,350 and I had his name added on it on the front. Should I give it to him today or wait until Christmas?
this is my childhood friend so I think this will mean alot to him. We've been friends since we was six and we are both 25 now.

I would wait until Christmas to give it to him. I'm sure he'll love it and always cherish it. Congrats on having such a long friendship with him and I hope you guys have many more years of happiness and joy together.
