American Eagle 1 Ounce Gold Coin

Answers

How much is my 1/2 ounce Gold American Eagle 2008 MS70 worth?

I recently purchased this coin for $800, knowing that the potential of it increasing drastically in value is pretty good, especially it being of such high grade. What is it value today? What could it potential be valued in 5 years? And also where would i find the mitage of this and previous years bullion?

Gold is currently between $700 and $900/ troy ounce. You have a bullion coin that is worth it's weight in gold plus a premium of 10-20%. So it should be worth $400 to $500. The best way is to go to a coin dealer and ask what the current price of the coin is, buy and sell price. I do not agree that gold will increase in the next 5 years like it did in the past 2. This is a market that it takes experience to trade in without loosing 2 shirts at a time. Precious metals, bullion coins, and bulk US silver coins are all very volatile markets. Good luck to you, the coins are very attractive, and may appreciate in the future.

American Gold coin Eagle fake?

what are the chances a $10, 1/4 ounce bullion gold eagle from 2004 is counterfeit? i got it on eay for $260, or is it too much money to counterfeit a lower valued coin? it looks like gold, but i fear it may be fake.

I already sent you an answer here and have checked with others and find no fakes reported of American Eagle Gold coins. To be safe weigh the coin. Also look at it for pock marks such as raised dots and the lettering in the legends should be sharp with no unsharp lines. You did not say where it came from. Most coins from China are fakes.

i want to buy gold coins. as of 8/15 gold closed @ 785.5 an ounce, how much should an american gold eagle ?

how much should a 1 ounce south african krugerand or canadian maple leaf cost me... is it the same as the cost of an ounce of gold or do i have to pay some type of markup ... thanks

There is always a small mark-up, and it varies with the coin. Krugerrands have the smallest mark-up, and the US gold eagle has the highest mark-up. Here is a link to current prices being asked by a major bullion dealer. These prices will vary with the spot gold price.

https://online.kitco.com/bullion/index.html

With spot gold at $785, the K-rand is $803.76, Canada Maple Leaf is $827.40, and the US gold Eagle and Buffalo are at $831.34

Why is gold so psychologically alluring?

I bought some American Eagle 1 ounce gold coins knowing they were not a good investment.

I just wanted to have some real gold and now I can't stay away from them. I just want to touch them and feel it's heaviness and beauty.

Is this a human thing or am I just strange?

Gold is a safe-haven commodity. If the paper currency ever became worthless due to some really bad event, gold would be one of the few things that would never loose its value. That's why gold uptrends when there is a bear market.

Rare Gold Coins Outperform Gold Bullion | Gold Coins Rare

Gold has been in a positive trend since 1999. We have seen gold come from $252 per ounce in 1999 to as high as $1,225 per ounce at the end of 2009. Over that 10 year period is a 386% gain. Over an even longer period of time we have seen gold come from $35 per ounce in 1970 to that same $1,225 mark in 2009. That is a 3,400% increase! But what have rare gold coins done over that same time frame?

According to PCGS, Mint State Rare Gold Coins have performed even better that gold bullion since 1970. On their site, a $1,000 acquisition of mint state rare gold coins in 1970 would be worth $114,489 today. That is an 11,348% increase! That means that rare gold coins have outperformed gold bullion close to 4 to 1 over the past 40 years.
