I don't want to get ripped off
wise_irish_owl...i'm not that stupid, i know it is not that cheap...if it were everybody would be stocking up on it. I know a quarter ounce is at least $100 - $200. I want someone who knows the real answer to tell me...like a gold collector.
If it is a common date coin, it is worth between $130-150, depending on the current gold market prices.
In this episode of Spare Change we look at the American Gold Eagle bullion and the collector American Eagle gold coins (proofs and burnished ...
The 1996 uncirculated silver eagle is some what scarce and is selling for $59.50. This date has an added collector value to it besides the silver in it. Please note that silver bullion coins are collected and some dates are scarcer than others so they are worth more than just the silver. A dealer should give you $35-$40 for it depending on his mark up.
i just bought on ebay for $280, a 2004 bullion $10 american gold eagle, the edges and lettering are perfect, no mottling or pockmarks, the US mint states they're supposed to weigh 8.483 grams, but when i weighed mine, it syas it is 8.522, off the stated mass by .039, is this normal? seeing how each coin can't be identical?
yeah i would say thats a pretty good fake but if you dont believe me call the FBI and ask them cuz they only supposed to be .012 off

Silver is at 20.10 an ounce
The Silver eagle market is around 22$ for a regular date - so thats the bear minimum.
All silver eagles are uncirculated so quality is prob not an issue for you, if they are still in their original case from the mint they are probably ms 67- to ms 69.
Both of your coins are around $34-40.
Hold onto them, silver will probably increase even more as the economy slumps.
what are the chances a $10, 1/4 ounce bullion gold eagle from 2004 is counterfeit? i got it on eay for $260, or is it too much money to counterfeit a lower valued coin? it looks like gold, but i fear it may be fake.
I already sent you an answer here and have checked with others and find no fakes reported of American Eagle Gold coins. To be safe weigh the coin. Also look at it for pock marks such as raised dots and the lettering in the legends should be sharp with no unsharp lines. You did not say where it came from. Most coins from China are fakes.
2009 American Silver Eagle Coins Set Annual Record at 28.7 Million ...
Anyone who reads the paper or pays attention to the news on the television or the radio can tell you that precious metal demand was extremely high in 2009. Owing to this almost insatiable appetite for silver, the United States Mint revealed record sales of its American Eagle Silver Bullion coins for the year.
The final 2009 tally from the US Mint places the one ounce silver bullion at 28,766,500 , a leap of over 9 million coins above the previous annual record created just the year before -- 2008 saw 19,583,500 of the Silver Eagles sold, which in itself was amazing. Previous to those two years, sales of the Eagles only broke the 10 million mark twice (in 2002 and 2006) since their introduction.

Why are gold coins better then gold bullion?
1. Gold coins can appreciate at a faster rate then gold bullion.
2. Gold coins are exempt from confiscation by the U.S. government.
3. Gold coins can gain value at a faster rate then gold bullion because they have a limited mintage. Gold bullion is mined continuously throughout the world which increases the supply offsetting demand which can result in lower price gains.
4. Gold coins gain in value because investors want assets that are non reportable. Gold brokerage firms are not required by law to report gains you experience to the IRS the way your stock brokerage firm or bank are required. Since we can not tell you not to pay your tax on the gains, we recommend telling your accountant.
