Why does a 1 oz silver American eagle coin appear larger than a 1 oz gold American eagle?
Golden Coins

Is the gold a more dense metal? Or is is simply an optical illusion and the thickness is actually greater on the gold coin?

It is not an optical illusion. Gold is the denser metal, as you correctly suspect. Therefore, when comparing coins of the same weight of gold and silver, the gold coin will be the smaller in size.

Besides, gold coins are just fascinating to collect!

What is the easiest and least expensive way to purchase a half-ounce gold american eagle coin?
American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin - reverse

I heard that the price of gold is expected to skyrocket in the near future. I would love to make an investment in it, but I have only a limited amount of cash right now. I have researched a few sites on the internet but most of them either charge large premiums or sell in packages. What is the easiest and least expensive way to purchase a half-ounce gold american eagle coin?

I would instead look at buying US commemorative gold on ebay instead. They are about a quarter ounce, so buy two. I have seen many sales of commemoratives lately from 1987 and 1988 selling for bullion prices. You could check out half eagles there as well.

I would say you should always use a credit card with any online transactions involving bullion. I buy with Paypal charging my credit card. Too many scary stories of fraudulent sellers out there to trust anything else.

How much can I expect to receive from a coin shop if I sell my 1997 $20 American Gold Eagle coins.?
American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin - obverse

American Gold Eagles sell based on bullion prices. Today gold closed at $915. A coin dealer is going to discount that price so he will have a margin to work with when he tries to resell the coin. My guess would be somewhere between $800 and $850.

American Gold coin Eagle fake?

what are the chances a $10, 1/4 ounce bullion gold eagle from 2004 is counterfeit? i got it on eay for $260, or is it too much money to counterfeit a lower valued coin? it looks like gold, but i fear it may be fake.

I already sent you an answer here and have checked with others and find no fakes reported of American Eagle Gold coins. To be safe weigh the coin. Also look at it for pock marks such as raised dots and the lettering in the legends should be sharp with no unsharp lines. You did not say where it came from. Most coins from China are fakes.

American Gold Eagle coin question?

what is the likelihood(chance) that an American gold eagle coin, from 1988-2008 be fake on ebay?

With the price at which they sell, resulting in the chance that someone would try to sell a fake, I would not buy gold coins on Ebay.
Buy directly from the U.S. Mint each year when they become available for purchase. www.usmint.gov

Or buy from a reputable coin dealer.
