i have a 1/10 oz american platinum eagle that was touched by me out of curiosity. will it stain? i washed my hands with hot water and soap before touching it.
If it was handled by the edges like you are supposed too it should be okay. Coin gloves are a good buy and can save a lot of grief. Cleaning it is out of the question. Keep an eye on it to see if your finger print shows up if you handled the coin improperly. If you only handled it for a very short time it should be okay.

Alright, the American Platinum Eagle coin is worth 25$, 50$ and 100$ I believe (different versions, weight, I'm not a coin expert so I'm not really sure). I'm curious though, can you pay for things with these? In a store I mean, could you pay for a (for example) 45$ thing with one of these coins worth 50$ or more?
Yes, the coins are assigned a legal tender value. Technically they can be spent for the face value.
However, the coin's value is more appropriately based on the spot price of platinum. Platinum is currently trading at $2,052 per ounce. You can use this to determine the value of precious metal content for each platinum eagle coin denomination:
$100 face value = 1 ounce of platinum
$50 face value = 1/2 ounce of platinum
$25 face value = 1/4 ounce of platinum
$10 face value = 1/10 ounce of platinum

They pretty much appreciate together as the market has periods of flight to quality and flight to equites, (the booms and busts)...
Or industrial use. I'de buy silver because it is the cheapest of the precious metals and likely to continue it's long-term uptrend. Supplies will tighten in the future as there are less and less mines to dig from. I recommend buying 1800's silver morgan's, as they are relatively cheap. A little more than silver eagle coins, but the collector's factor is strong with it. There is a fixed quantity of these morgan's, and they are gradually becoming rarer and rarer. I'm holding several, and expect them to appreciate substantially in the next 10-20 years.
Other than safe stores of value, precious metals are long-term investments, if they are bought as investments, rather than stores of value. So don't expect anything to happen overnight or even within a year... If you want that, go with stock equity, and more specifically, if you're interested in precious metals, go with precious metal mining and the basic materials sectors. Companies like FCX, MT..
First off i started collecting 6 months ago and have acquired coins from a Morgan to Seated liberty half to silver eagle, presidential dollar, commemoratives, etc. I purchased my first gold coin a 2008 $5 buffalo graded by ANACS in SP 70(satin) Now i am looking to purchase a $10 platinum eagle and have narrowed it down to a 2008 NGC coin. I am aware that these coins come in MS 69/ MS 70 with a regular label or the E.R. I like the idea of early release but would like to have a MS 70 grade. Looking at PCGS price grade a 1997 $10 in MS 70 is listed at $7,000. The value of a 1997 $10 in MS 69 is $145 so this brings me to believe that i am much better off purchasing a 70 grade. (tho they did not offer E.R. in 1997) I am looking at this from a collectors viewpoint and would like to say that i own a $7,000 coin (i am aware this may not appreciate in all cases) would paying $300 dollars for a regular 2008 MS 70 be overpaying by too much, this seems to suit my price range as i know platinum is around a G/ounce. i am trying to decide between the regular label MS 70 or an E.R. 69 please share anything advice/comment you may have. 21/male. thank you
MS 70 is the highest grade possible it is the closest to being perfect as your going to get, it is also the most expensive if a MS-69 cost $100 then an MS-70 will at minimum be double the price. There is also the grade of Deep Cameo MS-70 this coin will let you see yourself as if looking in a mirror this is the most Expensive grade I know of. Good luck
