For similar reasons that a US dime is smaller than the nickel, it just is.

Australian 5 cent coin vending machine question?

hey

my friend says that if you glue two australian 5 cent coins together
and you put them in a vending machine and press the coin return button, a $2 coin comes out because theyre the same size.
when i do this the coin goes straight through the machine and into the return chute. you dont even press the refund button. i weighed the two five cents that are stuck together and they weigh half of a regular two dollar coin's weight. is this the problem? has this trick ever worked for you?

Different weight and different thickness, those machines are designed to detect fakes. When $2 coins first came out that trick worked but not anymore.

Is this a coin or something else?

I have found what I think is a coin. It is the size of an australian 10c piece and a little thinner. It is silver and lightweight. Has R/9313-3 printed in the centre of it and under that just "RD"
also has a printed picture of a horse with wings up the top of it. It is a strange looking item. Does anyone know what it is/means etc? Thanks

I think I know what it is. It's not a coin, but a promotional medallion made of aluminium(the lightweight silvery metal) released by Reader's Digest("RD"). The horse with wings is the symbol of the publication company => http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en /a/af/Readers_Digest_Logo.png

Kangaroo Tour 1994 Coin? any one know what this is?

I have this coin. On the front it has Kangaroo Tour Australia Vs England, With a shield in the middle with Australian RL
On the Back It has a Pic of Mal Meninga, with Salute to mal Meninga written at the top and Tour Captain 1994 on the bottom.

Its a cold coin about the size of A 20 cent piece. if any one can give me some info about it, that would be great :D

The coin would be when the Kangaroo's went over to play England in the tour.

I think Mal Meninga was the captain, and they salute him cause he was so good, and helped them win.

I have the EXACT same coin, when I went over there and watched them beat England, it was absolutely GREAT.

around how much do opals cost?

its about the size of a 10c (australian) coin

This is rather like asking "how long is a piece of string?". I am not sure of the size of an Australian 10 cent coin but I would guess we are talking about a stone of around 2cts. The price per carat for stones of that size can range from about $8 per ct. for the poorest quality white opal to around $750 per ct. for very good black opals. With larger fine stones the price shoots up to astronomical numbers these days.
Sorry that this does not exactly answer your question but without knowing exactly what you are looking for it is as close as I can get.
