Hi Belinda, here's some info about the 50c round coin (and pic of one for those who don't remember the round coin!)....and current value today would depend on year of issue, etc - check out this website for details....http://www.peterstrich.com.au/oz_coins/f ifty_cents/fifty_cents.htm
I've seen some on EBAY for sale at a "buy it now price" of $9.95 and one winning bid paid $14.95.
I have a couple of 1 cent coins and a round 50 cent coins lying around I thought it would be interesting to know how much they're worth :]
The 50 cent coin is from 1966.
The 1 cent coins are in the years: 1966, 1973, 1975, 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1987.
I also have a few 2 cent coins from the years: 1966, 1967, 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1988.
If you go to your local public library, chances are reasonable that they have a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins (Krause Publications), which is the same coin reference that many coin dealers use.
The round 50 cents is a one year type (1966), and contains about .34 troy ounces of silver. It is worth about $5.
The one and two cent coins are worth about 10 cents each as collectibles.
I have an Australian penny from 1911, a half Australian penny from 1931, and a round 50 cent coin from 1956. Would these be worth anything? Thanks! <:oD
The Australian 1 penny dated 1911 has a mintage of 3,768,000, and is valued at A$3 in condition well circulated(centre part of diamond and parallel lines on the crown weak), while the 1931 dated half penny is A$5 in the same grade with a 369,600 mintage figure. Both dates are not rare. The 50 cents 1966(not 1956 coz the round type has only 2 dates, the other is 1967 but it's a pattern) is made of 0.800 fine silver and contains 0.3416oz of the precious metal. Mintage for this silver round is a high 36,454,000 and being sold for A$9 in uncirculated, and A$6 in nice circulated grade.
Australian 50 Cent Coins : 2010 Australia Day 50c
Celebrating Australia Day in 2010 the Royal Australian Mint in collaboration with the Australia Day Council has released a commemorative cupro-nickel 50c coin into circulation. With a minimum of 5 million coins planned to enter circulation, expect to find one of these in your change at the shops any day now.
It wasn't until as recently as 1994 that the whole of Australia has consistently celebrated Australia Day on the 26th of January as a public holiday. It was on the 26th January 1788 that The First Fleet from England landed at Sydney Cove and raised the Union Jack founding the Colony of New South Wales. Whilst not always called Australia Day, the 26th of January has historically been used for celebrations and commemorations. It has been known as Foundation Day, Anniversary Day and also Invasion Day.
