It would be possible, but you would more than likely distort the coin. Drilling would be the better option.

I have three coins all three of them are nickels. The are the years' 1945,1949, and 1950. About how much are these nickels worth?
Your best bet would be to take your coin to a local coin dealer. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.
Try posting pictures on this website (there are many coin experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

I have 3 Canadian nickels dated:
1962, 1962, and 1959
And they're shaped differently? They're 12-sided polygons.
Yes.
i have a 1944 nickel in good condition. only a scratch on the back (small). its in awesome condition other than that.
i'm just curious as to if it's a rare coin or if it's worth anything.
thank you.
I see we have some strange values again here no dealer would sell something for 17 cents nor would he pay such an uneven figure. In Grade very fine the coin trends for $1 in extra fine around $4. A trends value is an average of what a dealer sells a coin for and is usually a little high. The small scratch would take it out of the extra fine category most likely but the coin needs to be graded by a dealer. The 1944 nickel had a mintage around 14,000,000 so it is not a scarce date. it was minted during World War II so has historic value.
