What are the best coin albums?

I recently got more interested in coin collecting and need some nice albums. They should be good quality (but not too expensive) and would preferably have protection for the coins (slides, plastic covers).

Any links to sites or ideas would be great. Thanks!

The Dansco or Whitman "classic" coin albums are nice because they show both sides of the coin with a plastic cover for each side; however, they are more expensive. The HE Harris or Whitman "standard" folders are less expensive, and only show one side of the coin. You might also consider cardboard 2x2s with polypropylene pouch pages and a 3-ring binder. Those are really about the only coin "album" choices available, but there are other options as well.

coin collecting in Germany?

Here's a hard one for you, I'm in Germany, I collect coins, Germany has five places where they make coins. I am trying to find a coin album/folder to put the coins in. All I can find is Euro coin folders. I want one just of Germany, like we have have the 'P' and the 'D'. They have abcdef each letter meaning a different location. Guess I need to be asking yahoo.de. Just a try.

Have you tried a local coin dealer? This link might be helpful.

My gf is a amateur coin collector with a variety of coins. What's a good book, folder, album to put them in?

Just trying to buy her a b-day gift and she needs a place to put them because all she has now is a shoe box. I don't collect coins or know anyone who does so I was hoping someone online could help me. Preferably someone who also collects so I can get something nice/authentic. Thank you

Check around and see if you can find a box with a glass front she can put them in and hang it on her wall.

In coin collecting, does cleaning a coin with only a dry, clean cotton cloth decrease it's value?

I bought a set of Kennedy half dollars from 1964 thru 1986 off e-bay for a good price, but was dissappointed to see that the coins and the Dansco album they were in were covered with some kind of "crud." I'm not sure how to describe it. This album has obviously not been cared for in about 25 years. The seller has no scruples and will not make good on his sale, so I want to salvage it by cleaning off the coins with a plain cotton t-shirt and putting them in a new Dansco album. I cleaned off one proof coin and it looks the way a proof coin is supposed to look. If I can do so without decreasing the value, I'd like to clean off all the coins and put them in a new Dansco album. Is wiping a coin clean with a dry cotton cloth (with no cleaning agent) okay by the customs of coin collecting ?
Thanks

Cleaning the coins with a soft cloth no matter how soft will leave tiny scratches called hair line scratches by collectors. I wish I knew what you meant by crud? Proof coins have a special surface and usually anything done to it will make it change maybe not now but in to months to come. On the other you can try acetone the kind from a harware store 100%. Dip it into that for it will desolve glues and goos as well as oils and grease. put coin in distilled water and pat dry with solt cloth no rubbing. try that and see do one one and check it out before dong the rest. I do not recogmend cleaning proofs but you can try one of the less valuable ones. The one problem of doing business with ebay is the many crooks on it. In the end the average Joe does not make out. I actually get better deals from my local dealer. Hope this helps.

Where can I find out about my coin?

does anyone know what this coin is or how much it is worth?

OR do you even know a site where I can find out. I don't know anything about coin collecting and I don't know if this coin is worth anything or not.........

It's a brass token, generally 4 or 5 for a dollar.

Some Random Observations About the 2010 FUN Show : Coin Collecting ...

    By Doug Winter  – www.RareGoldCoins.com

Just like that (cue snapping fingers and whooshing sound) the 2010 FUN show came and went. For me, FUN is always productive and this year was no exception. I had a very good show and instead of the usual tedious (and self-serving) show report, I’d rather share a few random observations about the convention.

*I looked at oodles and oodles of coins at the show and what I didn’t see is, to me, every bit as interesting as what I did see. Two market areas that I participate in but found virtually impossible to buy in were early gold and Type One Liberty Head double eagles. I wanted to come back from the show with at least five pieces of early gold. I returned with none. Zero. Zilch. I saw some overgraded, dipped out coins that had been around the block. I looked at an interesting deal of early quarter eagles that was priced “enthusiastically.” But I saw virtually no fresh, interesting pieces of early gold.
