A tube of air contains a feather and a coin. Both objects are dropped at the same time. The coin falls faster?

than the feather. However, when the air is removed from the tube to create a vacuum, both the feather and the coin reach the bottom at the same time. Explain why this happens.

No air resistance on the feather. The two objects have the same gravitational force created upon them.

Why do a coin and feather in a vacum tube fall w/ the same acceleration in terms of Newtons 2nd Law?
Extension tubes

HELP? This is physics .

Newton's 2nd Law:

net force = mass x acceleration
acceleration = net force / mass

if gravity (the object's weight) is the only force acting,
net force on coin or feather = gravitational pull on object
= mass x g (gravitational constant)

so acceleration = net force / mass = g is the same for both.

in air the coin falls faster, even if the force of air resistance is the same for both, because the ratio of air resistance / mass is smaller for the heavier coin :

net force / mass = (weight - air resistance) / mass
= g - (air resistance / mass)

Why do a coin and a feather in a vaccuum tube fall with the same acceleration?

Help Please!

cuz there's no air friction to slow things down. just gravity pulling the freefalling objects.

Why do a coin and a feather in a vacuum tube fall with the same acceleration?

In a vacuum situation there is no air to be a barrier for any object. Air particles contain various gasses including but not limited to Oxygen, Hydrogen, CO2 and more. Each gas particle in the air have different weight and causes disruption of movement in other objects.
The earth atmosphere also contains barriers, for example, the Ozone layer is at the top because this type of gas is lighter then other particles.
If your question is regarding a home vacuum cleaner, then it is a different scenario. A home vacuum cleaner is not really a vacuum, because there is an air flow from one point to the other. The air suction is strong ernough that you won't notice the suction difference between a metal object and a feather.
